Audio setup
Shortlisted needs to hear two things separately: the meeting (which it transcribes and answers) and you (which stays on your Mac). There are three ways to arrange that.
This Mac's audio — the default
Captures everything your Mac plays, using a Core Audio process tap. Nothing to install, no virtual audio device, and it works with every meeting app. This is the right choice for almost everyone.
Your microphone is picked up separately from whichever input device is selected, and is never sent for transcription.
One app only
Captures a single application — Teams, say — so notifications, music and everything else stay out of the transcript. Useful if you keep other things playing.
Audio input device
For studio setups: a multi-channel interface, an aggregate device, or Dante Virtual Soundcard, where the mic and the meeting arrive on separate channels. Pick the device and map which channel is which.
Choosing what gets sent
Under Settings ▸ Your voice, Send to model decides what leaves the Mac:
| Meeting channel only | Default. Your microphone is never uploaded — only the other side of the conversation |
|---|---|
| Mic only | For dictation or practising alone |
| Both, mixed | Both sides transcribed. Your voice does leave the Mac in this mode, and the app says so |
Checking it works
Two meters sit in the toolbar: Mic and Mtg. Play something and watch the meeting meter move. If it doesn't:
- Check Screen & System Audio Recording is granted — without it macOS delivers silence rather than an error
- If you picked one app, confirm that app is the one making the sound
