Troubleshooting

The meeting meter never moves

Almost always the system-audio permission. macOS doesn't return an error when it's missing — it delivers silence, so everything looks like it's working.

  1. System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Screen & System Audio Recording — make sure Shortlisted is listed and enabled.
  2. Quit and reopen the app. macOS only re-reads this at launch.
  3. If it's enabled but still silent, toggle it off and on, then reopen.

Nothing appears in "My answer"

Check Transcribe my answers is on in Settings, and that Speech Recognition is granted. If macOS hasn't downloaded an on-device model for your language, the app says so rather than failing quietly.

Start does nothing, or says access was denied

This happens when a permission was granted to a previous version and macOS considers the new build a different app. Toggle Shortlisted off and on in System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Microphone, then reopen.

Answers are generic

The model only knows what you've given it. Load your CV, paste the full job description, and add who's interviewing you — answers are pitched at the person asking, so a director and an engineer get different depth. See context.

The answer responds to half a question

Raise Silence duration in Settings ▸ Turn detection. It's how long a pause must last before the question is treated as finished; 800 ms suits most people, but slower speakers need 1200–1500 ms. Follow-ups within the merge window are folded into the same question automatically.

It answers things that aren't questions

Raise the VAD Threshold slightly, and consider "One app only" so background audio isn't picked up at all.

The window disappears behind Teams

Turn on On top in the toolbar. If it's already on, check you haven't got Teams in full-screen — macOS gives full-screen apps their own space, and floating windows don't follow. Use a maximised window instead of full screen.

The recording won't play

Recordings are written continuously with the header updated every couple of seconds, so even a force-quit leaves a playable file. If one still won't open, email it to us — the audio is almost certainly intact and recoverable.

"You're out of minutes" but you just bought some

Purchases land within a few seconds of Paddle confirming payment. Click Refresh in Settings ▸ Account. If it's still wrong after a minute, email support@manarlabs.com with your receipt and we'll fix it immediately.

Sending us something useful

Every session writes an events log beside its transcript in ~/Documents/MeetingRecordings. It records timings, errors and settings — but no audio. Attaching the one from a session that went wrong usually tells us exactly what happened.
